Car rental in Spain

Wait a moment!
We're looking at local car rentals to find a great deal for you.

Spain is a country full of many incredible wonders. Here you can swim in the azure sea and lounge on the warm silky sand, walk in the streets of old towns and experience ancient history, drive through dizzying mountain serpentines, and take a leisurely stroll among the beauties of nature. And if you like to travel independently, it's the perfect place to rent a car and have the road trip of your dreams.

With a rental car, you don't have to rush to catch public transport, enjoy the sights at a strictly scheduled time or wait for other tourists travelling in the same sightseeing bus with you. A rental car allows you to enjoy a ride through sunny Spain at your own pace.

You can select and book a car in advance on our website.

If you are travelling to Spain by plane, you can have your rental car delivered directly to the airport.

When you arrive, the rental agent will meet you, sign an agreement, and give you the keys.

For how long to rent a car in Spain

The duration of rental period depends on how you see your ideal vacation in Spain.

If you want a seaside vacation walking from your hotel to the beach and back with only a few short trips to the nearest sights, then you can rent a car for 2 or 3 days.

And if you've been dreaming of a real road trip to visit the most incredible places in Spain and experience the soul of the country, you should rent a car for the whole vacation. No matter how long you stay, you’ll always find a sight to visit.

What you need to rent a car

To rent a car, you will need:

  • Driver’s license;
  • ID or passport;
  • Bank card.

Which car to choose

You can take a compact economy car to get around town and nearby attractions.

If you are planning a trip to the mountains, opt for a performance car with an engine capacity of more than 1.6 litres. A four-wheel drive crossover would be an ideal option.

Fill up with plenty of fuel before travelling into the mountains. When driving up the hill, the fuel consumption increases 1.5 or 2 times. And the mountain villages may not have a petrol station.

A convertible is perfect for rides along the coast with magnificent views.

A minivan is the right choice for large families or groups of friends. All you need to do is agree on a travel plan with all your travelling companions beforehand.

Traffic regulations

The locals drive carefully and follow the traffic regulations, give way to pedestrians, use turning signals on time, and observe speed limits.

Speed limits:

  • 50km/h in the city
  • 90km/h outside the city
  • 120km/h on expressways.

Do not break the speed limit because there are many speed cameras and radars along the highways and you may be fined.

Seatbelts must be worn by the driver and passengers.

Using a phone while driving is prohibited. You can use a phone only with a hands-free system.

The blood alcohol limit for a driver is 0.5 mg/ml.

Toll roads

The country has toll roads, but it makes sense to use them only if you are in a hurry. The alternative toll-free road usually offers scenic views with viewpoints and small cafés with local food, so it is a lot more fun to drive.

If you do need to use the toll road:

  • You can't use it by mistake; there is always a toll collection point at the entrance.
  • You can pay in cash or by card. Experienced travellers recommend paying in cash. When you use a card, you may be charged extra money because of system errors. Eventually, the money will be returned to you, but you will waste your time and nerves.

The easiest way is to pay in cash. Press the communication button on the panel at the beginning of the lane — an operator will come and accept your payment.

The toll rate depends on the road, traffic, and whether the road has tunnels. It is around €10-15 per 100 kilometres.

Parking

Parking is mostly paid in large cities. They are easily identifiable by the blue markings on the pavement and the corresponding road sign. You pay at once at a parking meter that accepts coins. Parking meters don't give change.

The parking rates are around €2-3 per hour. You can park your car free of charge in most car parks between 8 pm and 8 am.

The parking areas for local residents are marked with green or orange lines.

Free parking areas are marked with white lines.

Hello! Orders for today and tomorrow are considered rush orders. We can offer only one third of all available cars for such orders. The closer the rental dates, the fewer available affordable options you have, so we recommend booking early.

Hello! You can choose a convenient pick-up time. However, you may be charged extra for an early appointment because this will be an out-of-hours service. Your booking cost breakdown will be displayed before you make the advance payment.
